APPALACHIAN RECONSTRUCTION FUND
The destruction caused by Hurricane Helene in the Appalachian mountains has been catastrophic
Roads were destroyed, bridges collapsed, villages erased, and multi-generational businesses swept away. It is now critical to alleviate the suffering of those impacted and to deliver aid where it’s needed most. The key to resuscitating this region lies in reopening the network of small mountain roads, enabling people to return to work and restore their lives.
The Appalachian Reconstruction Fund is dedicated to providing assistance to clear and repair private gravel roads to allow essential road access to reconnect people with society and get them back on their feet as quickly as possible. Without a road to your home, life is at a standstill. To achieve this mission, the Fund focuses on three core pillars
Scope of Operations
The Fund’s area of operations are to clear the hardest hit roads within 3 hours of Asheville in all directions.
The Burnsvilles and Chimney Rock areas are our initial primary focus as we liaise with county, fire and police agencies to prioritize our operations.
To report a private gravel road in need of reopening, please email, call or text us at:

Machinery
Get the machinery to repair the roads onsite with operators to dig people out and get their roads to a passable state. This involves equipment leasing of bulldozers, excavators and track hoes to build the gravel roads that people live on.
Personel
The machine operators from the region who have the experience building roads in the affected areas. Liaison Coordinators to identify and prioritize the areas most effected and in need of help. Management and logistical personnel to bring fuel supplies, site evaluation and manage and allocate the operators.
Materials
Provide the construction materials to the operators to get their jobs done. This include gravel for the roads, culverts to channel water across roads as well as fuel to power the machinery.
